OCTOBER 7, 2013 - An amazing conference!
Hi!
So. Conference was incredible wasn't it? phew!!!!! I really could talk all day about it, but you know.. you all saw it i hope, so i guess I don't need to tell you what happened. But let me tell you how it all worked for me. The four of us Martigny Elders went up to Laussane to the stake center for the weekend. We got to see every session except the Sunday afternoon. Saturday we started with the Saturday morning session at 6 pm. Then Sunday morning we watched priesthood at 10, Saturday afternoon at 2, and Sunday morning at 6. We went out and contacted people on the trains in between. We had a group of 6 Elders and 4 Sisters so we went and sang on the Streets with our three Tahitians and their ukuleles That seems to be pretty effective. It was fun. :) I absolutely love contacting. It's pretty much the best part of my calling. :)
I absolutely loved conference. All the talks were such perfect answers to all my questions and prayers, but simply hearing them pray for the missionaries in EVERY prayer. That really brought it home. But yeah. Truly an incredible conference. One of my favorites to this point!
We're watching the Sunday afternoon right now as we do our emails at the Church. And... so... you know Elder Anderson's talk where he mentions a couple who's baby passed away after a week. Tender mercy for us all because we've been all praying for that baby... and he just talked about our little hero in conference.
Some interesting stories..
We went up to this GORGEOUS little village in the mountains to visit a British couple in our Branch. The only way up is this TINY little train that goes STRAIGHT up the very steep slope of the mountain. Each stop of the train gets steeper and steeper. So gorgeous. Funny enough though, on that little train we ran into 4 students from USU that were all members. They are here for a month doing some studies about the European Union, but we gave them a Book Of Mormon and asked them to give it away. They asked for more because they loved the idea. It was a cool little moment.
Jimmy is doing great. He's progressing slowly. He loves the book of Mormon and Joseph Smith though. We gave him the Joseph Smith history to read and he read it all twice! he's reading lot. I love it. :) I just hope he fees ready when his date comes..
Osvalde is another case completely... phew. I'll sum it up in one phrase that he said in our last rdv. "I really appreciate when you guys come over because it really is helping me for my baptism in the catholic Church". So..... he obviously didnt understand SOMETHING along the way... baby steps. baby steps. ha.
So... my very first week here we contacted this Young African woman (age 23) and she was super open to our message until we mentioned the bible and she quickly told us she's never read it because she can't read.. Well.. this week we had our first rdv with her. We're teaching her how to read. It's so awesome During that rdv, i truly realized just how much I love my calling. She is just so incredible grateful for us, and I am just so incredibly grateful for her! but geez. teaching adults how to read is hard.. we're working on the alphabet right now. She's Learning very quickly though. We're going to be seeing her regularly. Her name is Osaro. So cool. Other than all that it's been a pretty mellow week. just conference. :)
Oh. Last Monday for my birthday we went bowling just next door to our Church. I'm really no good at bowling. It was the Tahitians first time bowling though, so we had a good laugh.
Papi- I'm waiting for the usb. We've done a couple of videos. I'm afraid they're all going to be in french though because the Tahitians don't speak English. But, you can at least hear their hilarious laughs and see how much fun we're having. Also.. don't worry about me with money. I'm not planning on spending much out here. I think I'll be ok. :)
I love seeing the pictures you send me it's good to know things are all going well chez nous.
So.. this week I've been sick the entire week. I got a cold and have been between headaches, sore throats runny noses, etc. I'm feeling better though. So don't worry about me.
I love you all so much. The work continues.
Don't forget about me. I pray for you daily.
