September 16, 2013 "Writing emails....".
I am not sure why Mckay doesn't get time to email... ? Does he? Anyway just curious. Papi I told you we don't have a time limit to email right? Generally we take an 1 1/2 hours or even 2... Although if I had a companion who didn't want to email or have people to email it would be different... Anyway this week was hectic and fantastic all at once! So sister Barney and I spent the majority of this week in LA traffic! My favorite... But we had a great time even in traffic! One of my favorite moments was either when I got to drive the AVALON! the Avalon was President Bakers mission car and is now for sale and off limits. There were no cars and president let us drive it. Lets just say.. its really nice! and the second was the next day we took this ghetto old Malibu car. Sister Barney shifted into the left lane and when she signaled the whole stick came out of the steering wheel and she began screaming at the top of her lungs... I thought for sure she had stabbed herself or there was a large amount of blood with all the screaming and the next thing I see is her holding the lane changer in her hand saying how will I tell Elder Kelley about this (elder Kelly is the senior couple over the cars.. ) It was a hysterical day filled with 4 hours in a car... The important part though is that we made it safely to all of the zone conferences and it went really well! We trained on how to plan lessons together as full field missionaries and VC sisters. Here at the VC we take full field missionaries and their investigators on tours and teach them whatever lessons or concerns they have. Its actually quite an amazing thing to be a part of! My favorite part of the training was a bad example of how not to plan. we themed them differently- Lion King, Finding Nemo, and Pokemon. Pokemon was actually the biggest hit and the most laughs we got. President Weidman loved our training! When I am home I will have to reenact the funny conversation I had with him. Via email just wont do it justice and probably will just be confusing. Oh and don't worry I also learned some very inspiring things from Zone Conference to help our area and investigators. Two of the main focuses was working with Less Actives and using the Book of Mormon Boldy. Actually two of the things that sister Foutz and I have been working on.
Actually this last week we had an incredible lesson with Aleyda's Daughter (Aleyda is Daniel's wife our recent convert and her daughter is less active). This last transfer I have really seen my ability to teach by the spirit improve and these was one of those lessons. At the beginning she did not seem too interested, but by the end she was committed to read, pray, come to church, and change her life. The spirit was so strong in that hot little apartment. She came to church with her two little girls and her mom on Sunday:)
We also had an incredible lesson with Sus/Nar!! We had been really worried about him since he was really struggling with the word of wisdom and he was just not as excited about reading the Book of Mormon as he should be... So we prayerfully planned and prayed for this lesson. And we got there and he had been reading in the Book of Mormon every night and was on ch. 8 of first Nephi and hadn't drunken coffee in 5 days. I literally cried... haha I love these people!!! And they are finally understanding it and truly change. I wish you could all see how much they have grown. He also said he prayed about baptism and feels that he should be baptized. He has some doubts about marriage still...? but he said he said he would be baptized in October with his wife. So the plans are moving forward! :)
One of my favorite moments of this week was at LA English. We were helping the beginning class and one of the activities they were doing was charades. Of course Elder Haro asked sister Foutz to go first. The theme for the night was animals. So what is the next thing I see my Companion in her skirt flopping around on the floor like a Killer Whale! It was SO FUNNY! I only wished I had had my camera on me!~ Anyway we have too much fun together:)
So yesterday Elder Cordova (this last Conference he was released as one of the 70) came and spoke at the Visitor Center for a fireside. The fireside was in Spanish so there were many Spanish people, but there was also a handful of only English Speakers. So guess who they asked to Translate.. Yes. ME. I practiced all through church and role Played with Elder haro (an elder in our ward who is fluent in both) and when the event came I said a prayer and it went very well and actually was pretty fun! He also was an incredible and exciting and motivating speaker! I feel as if I learned twice as much since I heard it in Spanish and than repeated it in English. He shared a powerful message of how his goal for the evening was not for us to understand why he believes but to understand that believing is not enough. We must live what we believe and truly know Jesus Christ. He shared some powerful stories with us that I don't have time to write, but I will share them with you on a later occasion... Maybe in June.
Anyway the mission is fantastic and I am busily and happily working. I love you all and pray for you daily! Thank you for the prayers and support!
