October 7, 2013 "An inspired conference!"
Mis queridos familiares y amigos! ¿Cómo están? This week has literally been a spiritual blur! Wasn't Conference so inspired!? I am going to echo my brothers words and not repeat what we all heard at Conference, but I sure hope you took some good notes and apply what was said! Something we talked a lot at Zone Conference about was that if we aren't applying the Personal Revelation God is giving us we wont be entitled to receive more.. I cant remember the quote I think it was by Richard G. Scott. Point of my thought is I hope that your all applying what we learned at Conference because it was incredible! So this week we have had some amazing Tours in the VC. I think everyday we had a really great one. These last few weeks of the Transfer were crazy and I wasn't often with Sis Foutz in the VC for my calling so it was really great to spend some good time with her teaching those that came into the center. Its almost like a dream team! We teach really well together and even in Spanish we are getting better:) I will just write about a few of my favorite experiences we had. The first one was with a member who brought her two non Member friends into the VC (Spanish). As we entered the Christus and began to talk and teach we weren't a hundred percent where we should go in the Visitors Center although we knew we should teach the Restoration. As we listened to the Christus Sister Foutz and I looked at each other and shrugged our shoulders. (we do this a lot... we are to the point where we read each others minds... it is actually starting to weird us out.. haha) So we got up and began to talk and listen to what they said and where the spirit guided us and before you know it we are heading to the service section.... Service section.. I had no clue where this was going, but we trusted that God would help us know what to say to help them feel the spirit and have a desire to want to learn more. It was amazing!! Service was exactly what they needed! Both non members had met missionaries before and while they said no to listening what impressed them most was that the missionaries asked them how they could help them. They then began to open up and tell us about their experiences and families. We had a fantastic tour and the Member was so inspired(pretty sure she served a mission.. she was really good!) And at the end they both committed to reading the Book of Mormon and to go to church. And one of the non members husband was meeting with the missionaries, but she had refused to sit down and listen- She told us she was going to sit down now and listen to them:) The second was actually yesterday. Sis Foutz and I were assigned a sisters Tour an hour before they were planning to be there and we didn't get a lesson plan till maybe 15 minutes before... anyway we weren't 100% sure what to do. As we began to teach them the tour was okay... but that investigator was not really paying attention and didn't seem too interested.. I said a prayer in my head and prayed that it would work out. By the end of his time there he was a different person. I don't know how to explain it, but his whole countenance had changed. He had felt the spirit and the hope that the Gospel Brings. We showed him Gods Plan and he wept. (side note... The best part was watching their missionaries, the sisters who came with them, mouths fall open as he opened up and wept.) He said that he wanted this for his family and knew he had to act and change! It was a humbling experience to be a part of!
We also had some great experiences in our area! We met with Leticia a new investigator! She is tough cookie with a lot of really great questions! Slow and Steady with her will win the race thats for sure, but she committed to read int he Book of Mormon! And that´´s the greatest start we can get:) If there is anything I have learned on my mission is that reading in the Book of Mormon is the only thing that will change people. There is a power in that Book when we read Gods words and apply them in our lives. Narciso has been struggling these last weeks and it is because he stopped reading in the scriptures! He said he was able to stop drinking coffee because he was reading, but because he had stopped he said that things were getting harder in his life and he didnt understand why. We asked him what helped him quite Coffee and drugs and he said it was when he was regularly reading in the BOM and attending church. We asked him what has been different these last two weeks. HE made the connection that he hadn't been to church or really read in the scriptures! BINGO! He committed to read and be better he said. Miracles and change only come in our lives if we put the effort in first ourselves and have faith by showing it! It is not enough to just have faith in God or faith that he will help you or bless you, but we must have faith to act in faith! I love faith:) Susanna is great! She is already in MOSIAH.. She passed me in my studies! OH and we have a new investigator Teresa who is a real referral we got through head-quarters and she accepted to read in The BOM and be baptized! This week was one full of Tender Mercies from the Lord. Thank you for the prayers. I know that God loves us so much and all he wants for us to do is love him back and the way we do that is through our actions. I have seen as I have been more diligent and sincere in my prayers Blessings have come. I am incredibly grateful for the Restored Gospel of Jesus Christ and the knowledge we have! I love you all!
Pictures are from Last Tuesdays Buddhist tour we gave! It was such an incredible experience! Anyone else think Avatar the Last air bender?? I was on cloud 9 haha - Simple joys:)
