(INVESTIGATOR'S NAMES HAVE BEEN CHANGED TO MAINTAIN ANONYMITY)
October 7, 2013 "The Mexican Lover!"
Okay so this week was packed with awesome experiences and hysterical moments! So I am going to just jump right in. So this week we gained 4 new investigators making that a total of 8 investigators- A record for investigators for me here. Guaranteed only two have baptismal dates, but hey the rest will get there I have a lot of faith that they will! Our only issue, like McKays, is well time. Seeing how we only really spend about 20 hours a week in our area.. its a little crazy. But we aren't really complaining about having to squeeze people in! Also Latino schedules are tough and besides half of them don't pay their phone bill for a month and you cant get a hold of them! #spanishwardproblems. Anyway we love them:) I don't know why but these last weeks we have gotten a ton of referrals from Headquarters and other missionaries! We feel so blessed! Although this last week we met with our investigator who is super super active catholic, but wants to read the Book of Mormon and meet with us... Although Sis Foutz and I believe she might be trying to convert us in the process... pray for us.. She is tough. We are going for a 4th lesson this week and she is accepting a baptismal date or we will have to drop her :/
Anyway Sus/Nar are doing great! Because of the wedding details we have to move their date back to November 4th, but it is perfect for them. This last week Nar was really struggling with some persecution and was having a hard time. I have never been soo worried sick about something... I hope parenting isn't like that.. Both Sister Foutz and I were very worried, but yesterday they came to Church and later to the VC and they are doing great and things are looking up. He said what helped him was prayer, scripture study, and church.. GO Figure! It really is so simple. Often though easier said then done, but if people could understand the joy that is found as we are obedient I think more people would do it!
Okay so we had a Miracle in the VC yesterday!!! This man from Ukraine walks in and says I would like to be a Mormon- How can I do that? Sister Foutz and I had the privilege of being able to answer his questions and teach him. He is super intelligent and is studying Bio Chemistry and has a doctorate in dentistry.. He liked 5 minutes away from the Ukraine Temple and met some Mormons there and is studying here in LA and came to the VC. He already had a Book of Mormon and is 2 nephi and wants to be baptized this month. Did he set his own date, yes! We called the Elders who are actually the APs excitedly to tell them that they were getting a GOLDEN! It was such a miracle to be apart of that- The Lord really is preparing people and there are so many just waiting and wanting to Truth, but don't know where to find it. Or they are like our friend and know exactly where to go!
Okay now I have to end my email with one of the funnies this week. The Mexican Lover...
So brief background story. Sister Foutz first transfer we went and visited a referral and when we knocked on his door he was drunk and rude, but as we were patient and started to testify he began to cry and committed to come to the VC. Well to our surprise he never did... Obviously. I was pretty sure he was too drunk to remember anyway. Well the other day we were contacting an inactive when we hear my name shouted down the Alley way "LAGO!., LAGO!" we turned around and no one was in sight. I didn't have the slightest idea who it could be... and then it came again "LAGO! LAGO!" and there he was from the second floor yelling out his window at me. He starts apologizing for not coming to the VC and that he "did wrong by me.." (not sure how to translate what he said) Anyway he begins to say that he could never forget me... He told us to finish doing what we were doing and come up and he would give me his number. So of course what did we do? Go get the number... Well when we get up there and knock on his door he goes off about how I must be married.. Confused, Sister Foutz and I explained again our purpose as missionaries and about our unique message... he says "oh yes I have a lot of Faith- God is in my heart I will show you..." Then he walks into his room. At this point I lean over to sister Foutz and whisper.. "do you think he wants to marry me?" then he comes out with two water bottles in hand and a rose.. as sister Foutz said "I knew exactly where that was going!" I have no clue what he said because we got out of there fast. We laughed hysterically about it later.. especially as we were street contacting with a rose in my hand... I wish I could say this was the first creepy Latino to hit on me, but its not. Good thing there are plenty of nice ones who are like family to me, but Oh the joys of San Vicente!
Well we are working hard and seeing miracles as the Gospel changes and shapes people. I love being a missionary and am enjoying the Adventure of it! You are all in my Prayers!
Te Quiero!
