"Oh ye of little faith!!"
HOLA MI FAMILIA Y AMIGOS!!! Cómo les echo de menos!
This week was a roller coaster! I went from laughing hysterically with sister Stevens all day to being exhausted and disappointed and then humbled and happy. We will start from the beginning I suppose!
Tuesday morning Sister Stevens decides to let me cut her hair... I have never cut anyone’s hair before and Sister Stevens is pretty much a professional hairstylist or other... She was panicking! Needless to say her hair turned out fine! Sister Stevens and I have a blast together I am so grateful for her and all she is teaching me!
We had an incredible training this week! Every week we have a meeting called Visitors Center Training, but this week President and Sister Baker came and spoke to us. It was very powerful and uplifting! This was one of my favorite quotes the President Baker shared from President Ezra Taft Benson about the Book of Mormon.
It is not just that the Book of Mormon teaches us truth, though it indeed does that. It is not just that the Book of Mormon bears testimony of Christ, though it indeed does that, too. But there is something more. There is a power in the book which will begin to flow into your lives the moment you begin a serious study of the book. You will find greater power to resist temptation. You will find the power to avoid deception. You will find the power to stay on the straight and narrow path. The scriptures are called “the words of life” (D&C 84:85), and nowhere is that more true than it is of the Book of Mormon. When you begin to hunger and thirst after those words, you will find life in greater and greater abundance.
Being a Visitors Center Sister we don’t always get our full studies in for the day, but this week we have had more study time and I am so grateful for the Book of Mormon. If you aren’t reading it start now. My sweet companion from the MTC, Hna Perez, always said the Book of Mormon was her personal letter from God. I completely agree- I have learned time and time again exactly what the lord needed me to hear from reading his words.
So this week all our investigators are MIA and only Kelly(the 9 year old) came to church this week. We had all of our appointments cancel and we spent much time Tracting. "my favorite thing.." haha. I came home Saturday night exhausted and disappointed... Now this is the moment you think I would remember that God tries our faith in many ways and that if we have faith he will bless us in greater abundance.. but no I couldn’t see it. Well he decided to give me two tender mercies to help me change my perspective! the first was taking the Sacrament. I decided to read along with the Sacrament prayer in the Scriptures. I focused on the covenants I had made at baptism when I was 8 and if I was really living them. I committed right then to do a better job at what I promised to do years ago. I also was able to talk with a 19 year old girl contemplating to serve a mission and I told her all the many reasons she should serve a mission and even though its hard there are immense blessings that come with it. I walked away realizing My attitude had been changed... Sometimes you just have to take your own advice!
Life is really all about your perspective! Have faith and act on that faith and God will bless you! It really is so SIMPLE! So God blessed us yesterday! We had a dinner appointment so we were planning on leaving the VC early yesterday, but Elder Chandler (the senior missionary) stopped us and asked us if we could talk to this cute couple who had just had a newborn baby. We decided too quickly... good thing we did! The husband was a less active returned missionary and he had married a women from Cuba who hardly new anything about the Church. After having watched Gods plan she recognized the blessings that come to a family as they have the principles of Christ’s teachings in their homes. She was interested and wants missionaries to come teach them! AND GUESS WHAT!? we got her address and found out she lives in our proselyting area! We are the missionaries that will be teaching them! IT was such a neat experience. two other favorite moments (only a few out of many from yesterday) was when we met Gudelia! We knocked on her door and she let us in!!! Probably one of my first experiences where we have been actually let in. She had had missionaries once knock on her door and give her a book of Mormon. We were able to talk with her and we are going back on Friday to teach her and her family! The last was we went with Juanito and his wife (we were hoping they would bring Ever, our investigators, but no luck) to the Stake Music Concert! IT was incredible!! LA has a lot of talent! Professional musicians and singers- opera and all~! well on one of the last songs we all joined in to sing "How Great thou art" and the spirit was really strong and right as the last note was hit the whole church shook~! a Mini earth quake! My first one! Maybe just a coincidence of the timing but a cute women from the Spanish ward came up to me and said It meant God was really happy! I Believe it~!
This world is full of bad influences and heartbreaking things and bad things happen to Good people, but I know as we put our trust in our Father in Heaven and fully follow him he blesses us and gives us the strength and hope to continue on. The Teachings of Christ not only give us strength through difficult times but often allow us to avoid the chaos of the world. I am so grateful for the Restored Church of Jesus Christ! What a privilege and a blessing to have a prophet on the earth to guide us so that we may have a happier life here and eternal joy in the world to come. The Church is true! If you don’t know it- its time to figure it out! no time like today to be Happy:)
